The WET-AID Project is part of the cross-border European Territorial Cooperation Programme “Greece-the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 2007-2013”, and is co-funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund - ERDF) and National Funds of Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Water resources are necessary for the sustenance and development of local communities through various uses such as economic activities, food production and recreation. Contaminated water can spread illnesses and disease vectors, so clean water is both an environmental and a public health issue. Furthermore, increased water quantity can cause natural risks such as flood events and increased population of insects that transmit diseases. The aim of the WET-AID project is the protection of human life and environment through water and soil ecosystems management in protected areas.
